I was often told that my products are too massive and heavy. I have thus set out to make a really light chair.
For the first try, I have used larch wood sticks of square intersection 2 by 2 cm. The construction was strengthened with aluminium supports. The larch Lajt weighs 2030 grams.
For my next Lajt, I substituted larch wood with the lighter redwood. The intersection of the sticks was diminished to 1.8 by 1.8 cm, and the solid seat plate replaced with bamboo network. The second Lajt weighs only 985 grams and would have been lighter still had I used aluminium screws to fasten the supports.
The chair can be held on the tip of a finger, but it can withstand the weight of an adult, plus perhaps a child, quite easily. The first test nears the ideal, while the second is more earthly; one could say, to stand on the ground and reach for the clouds is the merit of the Lajt couple – or nearly so.
